Dr. Kaleem Arshad

Dr. M Kaleem Arshad a board-certified psychiatrist and have been engaged in private practice in the field of psychiatry in the New Orleans area since 1990. I am a Diplomate of American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with certifications in specialties of adult psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry and addiction psychiatry. I have been board certified in the subspecialty of forensic psychiatry as well.

I received my medical degree from Dow University of Health Sciences in 1980 and came to the United States in early 1981. After working as a volunteer physician at Children Hospital National Medical Center, Washington DC in 1981 and 1982, I served as House Officer in Psychiatry at Provident Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland from 1983 to 1985. In 1985, I moved to El Paso, Texas to start my psychiatric residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and completed my three years training in 1988.

Following six months work at East Louisiana State Hospital as a staff psychiatrist and admission program director, I began private practice in the New Orleans area. While engaged in private practice, I have held several leadership positions in various psychiatric hospitals and institutions over the last three decades. I served as Medical Director and Chief of Medical Staff at Methodist Psychiatric Pavillion, Psychiatric Pavillion of New Orleans, Seaside Behavioral Center and Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Greater New Orleans.

I directed a psychiatric emergency room at West Jefferson Medical Center for six years. I served as Regional Medical Director of Mental Health Network and Executive Vice President of Evergreen Healthcare Management prior to 2005. I founded a professional medical corporation, Physician Care, in 1994. The corporation medically managed and directed several psychiatric hospitals and programs in the New Orleans area in coordination with other psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners as part of the private practice group.

I have taught medical students, residents, and fellows at Louisiana State University School of Medicine and St Martinus University College of Medicine. I hold faculty positions as Assistant Clinical Professor at LSU School of Medicine and Tulane University School of Medicine as well as  Visting Professor at St Martinus University College of Medicine. I have been involved in the training of psychiatric nurse practitioners at the University of Alabama, the University of South Alabama and Southeast Louisiana University.
